We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God Himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold… Hebrews 6:19-20 TPT
Amidst 10 to 15 foot waves far off the coastline of Sitka, Alaska, our captain anchored his small fishing boat to the seabed about 300 feet below the surface. After catching our limit of halibut our captain gladly announced to the four of us, “We are getting out of here!” Much to his chagrin, he could not raise the anchor.
Although all of us were hoping to “get out of there” and go to calmer seas as quickly as possible because of the storm that was brewing, our boat’s “unbreakable anchor” would not budge. Attempt after attempt was made to unfasten the boat’s anchor from its stronghold. After about an hour our captain shook his head at what was happening, stating “I have never seen anything like this!”
In the midst of the storms of life God calls us to take action. He calls us to anchor our souls in Him – the God of Hope – in the hope that is beyond all natural hope. (See recent blog “Hold Fast: White Water Rapids Ahead.” )
Allow your heart to be awakened to the reality that Jesus is your “unbreakable anchor.”
I have primarily seen Hebrews 6:19-20, the above Scripture, as a call for me to take action – to make sure that I was anchoring my hope in Jesus Christ and in the certainty of the promises of HIs Word. Although this imperative for us to do, I now have an indelible new picture of another aspect of Hebrews 6:19-20 that came from my fishing expedition that day. I now see Jesus Christ as my “unbreakable anchor,” Who is holding me securely to Himself amidst the storms of life and not letting me go.
Allow your heart to be awakened to this reality of Jesus Christ being your “unbreakable anchor,” Who is tightly holding you amidst the fierce waves and surmounting storms in life. You are firmly secured to His “mercy seat in the heavenly realm” where He is interceding and acting on your behalf as your High Priest. (Heb. 6:20) You are His treasured vessel! He will not let you go!
Prayer: Thank-You Jesus for being my “unbreakable anchor.” Thank-You for holding fast to me and not letting me go. Thank-You for securing me to Your mercy seat. Thank-You for interceding and acting on my behalf.
