Still others are like the seeds sown on good soil. They hear the word, receive it, and produce a crop—thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a hundredfold. Mark 4:20
“The birds and the crows came and ate up all my seed,” replied my neighbor this morning. Several years ago, he had turned his entire front yard into a beautiful above ground garden, growing a wide variety of vegetables.
Upon seeing his success, a month ago my husband and I implemented the instructions he gave us on how to build sturdy garden boxes, assemble a drip irrigation system, and choose the right type of soil.
Desiring to have a productive garden, I began to pay attention to what other more-experienced gardeners had to say. Repeatedly, good seed and good soil came on the top of everyone’s list for a high-yield. This reminded me of the words Jesus, our Master Gardener once spoke.
Good soil is one that …. produces a thirty, sixty, and hundredfold increase from the “good seed” of God’s Word.
Knowing the importance of both the good seed and good soil, naturally and spiritually, Jesus shared a parable about gardening. He likened the “good seed” to His Word and the “soil” to the condition of the human heart. While the “good seed” is immutable, the condition of the soil of one’s heart can change, depending on “how you hear” God’s Word. (Mal. 3:6, Jm. 1:17 Lk. 8:18)
Like never before, it is crucial for you to allow God’s Word to till the soil of your heart that has become “hard, rocky, or thorny,” so that it can become “good soil.” Good soil is one that not only resists diseases and repels bad bugs, but it produces a thirty, sixty, and hundredfold increase from the “good seed” that is planted.
In order for you to experience such abundance, you must pay attention to what your “Master Gardener” is say and doing – following His Word and dwelling under His care. When you do this, you will not be caught by surprise by the enemy, the devil, whose main mission in life is to take away the good seed, God’s Word, from your heart, so that you will not believe it and therefore cannot be saved by it. Luke 8:12
